Nikolai Klotchkov
Nikolai Klotchkov, saxophone
A native of Moscow, classical saxophonist and emerging researcher, Nikolai Klotchkov believes that only an excellent musician can create a valid scientific description of music phenomenon. Researching musicians' physiology and music cognition, he seeks to provide insights into performing music as a phenomena. Nikolai studied saxophone with Aleksey Volkov at the Ippolitov-Ivanov Institute. After moving to the US, he graduated from Auburn University with BM in classical saxophone under Michael Pendowski, and a BS in Interdisciplinary Studies. In 2018, Nikolai won the GCSS Concerto Competition performing Ibert's Concertino da Camera. After earning his MM in saxophone performance, Nikolai is pursuing an MM in musicology and a DMA at Peabody Conservatory. At Peabody, he studied saxophone under Gary Louie and conducted scientific research in the Department of Performing Arts & Health. Nikolai performs regularly both in the United States and Russia.
