Jackson (Jackie) Wu
Jackson “Jackie” Wu, a Baltimore native and seventh grader, has a deep passion for music that fuels his dedication to the piano. He also enjoys exploring many genres and creating original computer-based tracks and beats. “Music connects with emotions I can’t put into words. I feel my best when I find a phrase that perfectly expresses how I feel,” he says.
In February 2025, Jackie made his orchestral debut with the New England Youth Ensemble after winning the Maryland State Music Teachers Association (MSMTA) Concerto Competition. He has also earned top prizes in multiple competitions, including First Prize at the 2025 MSMTA Student Scholarship for Performance, the 2024 Baltimore Music Teachers Association Nachman Competition, and the 2023 Valencia International Performance Academy Festival. In May 2024, Jackie presented his first solo recital, performing a 45-minute program featuring works by Bach, Chopin, and Prokofiev. His repertoire reflects broad musical interests, though he is particularly drawn to the works of Chopin, Mendelssohn, and Debussy. Since 2021, Jackie has studied with Dr. Shirley Yoo of the Peabody Conservatory of Johns Hopkins University.
Jackie is also a co-founder of WY Productions, a house-concert series benefiting Baltimore Symphony Orchestra OrchKids, which provides free music instruction and programs for Baltimore youth year-round.
